My Three Year Distilled Water Experiment and Lead-Free Glass Bottle

There was distilled-water-only drinking “fad” of sorts in the mid 2010’s. Those who paid attention to it probably noticed that it did fade away and stopped trending in a fairly short time.

I had been curious about it for many years, but the concern was always what is publicized: that drinking only distilled water will rob your body of vital and trace mineral nutrition.

Alternative health explorers countered that claim by insisting that just wasn’t the case. And a great many of them, and others, decided to experiment with it in real time to see what would happen…

Great, amazing, life-changing detoxification, energy-enhancement, enlightment and ascention?

Or…

…not so much.

I decided to give it a go. The idea was intriguing, and I’d drunk (drinked?) distilled water on occasion often enough in the past that I certainly knew a little bit of it seemed to have no adverse effects.

And I loved the concept: totally and completely “clean” water, that supposedly also had the benefit of “pulling” toxins out of the body. As some alternative practioners would claim, “like a vacuum.”

It kinda made sense.

SO: Having the on-going issues that I’ve had since 2005’s poisoning via antibiotics, I started my distilled water journey on January 1st of 2014, and continued it to exactly January 1st of 2017.

Three full years.

WHAT HAPPENED AND WHY I STOPPED:

My hair changed color. Just as others reported. My hair is naturally an ash brown color; it became distinctly blonder.

One friend insisted I was turning into a “cute little blond boy.”

That friends is an annoying friend.

There is no question it was happening though.

And I had no problem with it. It looked natural and actually did seem to make me look younger, even though I’m happy with my normal hair coloring.

But there is a reason why I did stop at the three year mark. And it’s for exactly the reasons that the mainstream warns about in drinking distilled water:

I began to experience cramping that I never had before.

I’ve had random cramping issues in the past, since I was a kid, I think like most of us do. But they were increasing just enough to notice, and whenever I have any new problem, I look for both the cause, and a solution.

I knew immediately it’d be best, and time, to return to my spring water.

So I did.

I can never prove that there was a direct causation. There was simply enough correlation that I figured I’d end the experiment and return to the spring water that I always knew would be the best hydration option I had, despite the dang plastic containers it came in.

I did end up having much more severe cramping starting about a year later. So I think it’s safe to assume the distilled experiment had nothing to do with that, and perhaps the whole cramping issue started for reasons entirely unrelated to the distilled water, and due to something else instead. I hate to say “age-related,” because I really don’t believe in that. I believe there is a cause for everything and that most of the times those causes can be fixed.

I’ll definitely cover the severe cramping that has become new in my life in another section of my content. The cramping involves inner-thigh lock-ups at night, a very special and unique kind of agony…that I was able to resolve through supplementation, thank goodness.

And for the fasting that I do, as I reference in the materials used, distilled water is an option that I’ve experimented with a bunch of time, to no ill effects that I could discern at all. I think that may be one of the most appropriate times to use distilled water of all.

In this steadfast pursuit of systemic detoxification, avoiding heavy metals has always been extremely important to me. Heavy metal exposure seems to too often be related to cognitive issues, so outside of Queensrhyche and Dream Theater, I don’t want any exposure to heavy metal at all.

…and so much glass that’s made has lead in it.

(UGH).

So I Searched and Searched for

Lead-Free Glass Water Bottles.

Plastic containers and xenoestrogens is one problem…heavy metals/lead/etc is another.

Glass just seems the best option, if we can get it as CLEAN as possible.

So I’ve been using these lead-free silicone-sleeve covered glass sports bottles. Kinda genius, since the sleeves will help protect the glass from breaking if dropped.

And I’ve dropped the dang things. More than once.

It happens.

And in a half dozen drops over the years, the glass broke only ONCE. And that was at the gym in the locker room on the ultra-hard surface of a built-in-1972 locker room floor whereby the thing landed on that surface exactly flat, on it’s side…it was kinda a fluke…and smashed the glass.

I know a few other people who have this water bottle and have dropped it as well, with no breakage.

And, we have the added bonus of heat exposure; if the bottle is in the sun on a hot day, we don’t have to worry about how any plastics may be leaching into our drinking water.

SO!…the bottle:

Many colors to choose from.  Color coordinate to match your attire; make a fashion statement and get noticed at the gym.  Impress your friends.  This is me trying to sound cheesy like an infomercial.  Read it with that made-for-radio voice and it might sound convincing:

And Some Great, Non-Toxic, Coffee Mugs:

My lead and cadmium-free mugs.  Although I don’t drink coffee, I do drink hot water on a regular basis.  Tired of having to worry about whether I’m being exposed to lead or not in mugs, so I’ve been using these since New Year’s 2020.  Going on the idea that perhaps the combination of high heat and heavy metals, and consuming, may not be a good idea.
